This test uses PCR technology as well as lab culture methods to detect normal and negative bacterial strains, as well as parasites. It also detects 3 markers of gut inflammation and 3 markers of digestion and absorption.

The information collected about gut bacteria, inflammation and digestion/absorption is synthesized in the results report to reflect the status of 3 key functions of health: digestion, inflammation and gut microbiome.

The lab ascribes a score to functional imbalances in the categories of poor digestion, inflammation, poor gut microbial balance, metabolic imbalance and infection. The report provides an infographic to help situate the patient’s scores with respect to normal healthy controls, in terms of gut microbial balance. Finally, a ‘methane score’ is given to quantify methane-gas producing bacteria and ensuing small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
